BIG BOYS -- Houston, Texas 1982 (50 minutes)

Legendary Austin,Texas band BIG BOYS! One of the first skatepunk bands (making them all that more exceptional, since they were from Texas and not the typical California skate scene!) and also one of the first hardcore bands with openly gay members, BIG BOYS were on the forefront of the new hardcore movement and indeed guitarist Tim Kerr would go on to be a major force in the punk scene, and release essential records by many bands on his record label.

Coming from the DC area hardcore scene myself, I was never into the straight edge aspect of the music. However it can't be denied that MINOR THREAT were an incredible band whose influence is still felt today.Here's a 1986 Dischord release featuring performances of the band circa 1983.

WORLD OF SKINHEAD -- documentary, 1995, 52 minutes

WORLD OF SKINHEAD tells it like it is, from all walks and ALL RACES of skinhead life, and sets the record straight. For those who only know the propagandist slant of racism that the media feeds the public this is a must view film.The documentary here delves into the beginnings of the movement and it's influence on both ska and reggae as well as it's later influence on punk and still later those who would corrupt it's early designs and adopt it for racist and socialist ideals.

ok, something a little different today.Here's a bunch of bands coveirng FLIPPER's "Ha Ha Ha".My personal favorites are the versions by LOUD YOUTH and AZAZEL BLUE AND THE EARTHWORMS.Of course there's also JESSE MORRIS AND THE MAN COUGARS who pay tribute to both Flipper and Annie's Social Club at the final show at Annies in 2009.
