URBAN STRUGGLE:BATTLE OF THE CUCKOOS NEST--Black Flag,Circle Jerks,TSOL and more.40 minutes.
URBAN STRUGGLE is a nice little snapshot of Huntington Beach punk venue The Cuckoo's Nest filmed between 1978 and 1981, and features interviews and performances with the likes of Black Flag,Tsol,Adolescents,Circle Jerks, and Fear.Chronicling the fight the venue went through to keep it's permits (not always successfully as in when dancing was banned by authorities in club!)and many of the tribulations of the squatter situation of some of the bands and the violence they faced at the hands of neighboring country/cowboy bars. The Cuckoo's Nest and the events of this documentary are depicted in the now-classic VANDALS song "Urban Struggle" from which this film derives it's name, and this also includes interviews with pat Brown, also immortalized in a VANDALS song. This short documentary has recently been remade with with a larger budget and running time with more live footage and interviews under the title "WE WERE FEARED".

LOS CRUDOS --- live 1995, Cleveland Hardcore Fest, 23 minutes
The Cleveland Hardcore Fest took place over three days in 1995, and from the moment I arrived I knew I was in for a horrible time. What the organizers considered "hardcore" were bands like HOT WATER MUSIC,JIHAD,and (you gotta be kidding me)FIFTEEN!
However, the weekend was not a complete waste when LOS CRUDOS, one of the the only true hardcore bands on the schedule finally played their set.CRUDOS were at their peak at this time, smack dab in the very middle of their time together (beginning in '91 and breaking up in '98). While i was not a fan of their straight edge lifestyle, their stance on certain other aspects and politics more than made up for the SxEx lyrics that were really only a small part of their repertoire. The band expresses their disgust over the "rock star" mentality of the festival and of the people in attendance in particular, and pulls no punches in their set. This was most definitely the only high point of the Fest, and i had completely forgotten all about this show until i stumbled on this vid earlier today (it HAS been 16 years, after all!).

ASTA KASK--live 2004, 40 minutes
Legendary Swedish hardcore band ASTA KASK have just finished up their first ever American tour (sadly they didn't play anywhere close enough for me to go see them--grrr!), and i thought i might share this great live set from a festival in Hulstfred, 2004.Amazing set and so much energy, considering they've been around since at least 1978 (they began as X-TAS in '78 and changed their name to ASTA KASK in 1980)!Brutal ,blazing hardcore! This is how it's done, kiddies!

THE DAY THE COUNTRY DIED: A History Of Anarcho Punk --documentary -92 minutes
Those of you who have followed this blog for any length of time know that I am loathe to post/embed any vids from youtbe whatsoever. If i can't find what I'm looking for on an alternate video site then chances are I will just move on to another video/topic.
This vid, however, is an exception for several reasons.First, despite all my attempts to find it on the many other video hosting sites i frequent (and trust me, there are many, many of them--mostly located outside of the United States)youtube seems to be the only place i could find it.
Second: the importance of this documentary and the time period, bands, and ideas which it represents can not be under estimated.
Third: there's something of a nice little "fuck you" implied by using a billion dollar corporation to get a message of DIY and anarchy out there to the people.
This 2007 documentary, made as a companion piece to the 2004 book of the same name, features interviews and performances by many of the anarcho-punk mainstays of the time it represents including SUBHUMANS,CRASS,CHUMBAWUMBA,RUBELLA BALLET,CONFLICT,AMEBIX,TOXIC WASTE and many more.
(If anyone can find an embed code NOT from youtube, please let me know and i will gladly replace the video!)

FALSE PROPHETS-- live 1987,Grand Blanc Mi-- 53 minutes
the Legendary FALSE PROPHETS.From the source where i found this embed:
This was recorded in the Siefert's golf course barn in Grand Blanc, MI, September, 1987. This was one of the last shows of the "hall party" era(1982-1987), before shows started being held at the Capitol Theatre, a couple months later. The False Prophets were from New York and were regulars and popular favorites of the Flint underground music scene throughout the 1980s.
KRAFTWERK-- German tv 1981,20 minutes
Fascinating German television broadcast from 1981, which I can only surmise was a tie-in with the release of that years COMPUTER WORLD album. A mix of interviews (for those that speak German),live sequences, and videos (including a clever but disturbing one for "Radioactivity").All the tracks here are in the original German, so if you're only familiar with the English versions, this will be a treat as the mixes are in many cases radically different.

REAGAN YOUTH -- live 1984-- 35 minutes.
The great REAGAN YOUTH live at the Olympic,Los Angelos,1984. This was when they were still an actual PUNK band, and not the crappy metal band they later turned into---however they do play Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" (first track on this vid).
This is damn good stuff, right here!
